Southampton are understood to be tracking Motherwell’s talented teenage midfielder David Turnbull. The 19-year-old has been with the Steelmen since the age of nine but has just six months left on his contract at Fir Park – which has led to rumours he could be about to leave.
Southampton have scouted the Wishaw-born starlet, who has scored three Premiership goals for Well and set up two others this season.
Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson is keen to get the teenager tied down to a new deal at Fir Park, but believes the players’ agency – who also represent Saints star Stuart Armstrong – are influencing matters at the moment.
“David’s a young boy,” Robinson said of the Scotland Under-20 international earlier this month. “He wants to sign for the football club but whether his representatives believe that’s the right thing to do, I’m not so sure.
“What we try to do is let him concentrate on his football. “He’s a young boy. Let him enjoy himself then go and express himself and hopefully he’ll then keep doing what he’s doing for us.”
