Carlos Sainz admits Daniil Kvyat is “one of the most talented” drivers he has ever come across, as he is rumoured to be returning.
The pair were together in 2013 with the Arden team in the GP3 feeder series, before once again partnering up at Toro Rosso in the 2016 season.
Kvyat has had a chequered past in Formula One with great pace and potential often being overshadowed by mistakes and a lack of confidence in him from team bosses.
The Russian is being linked with a return to the Toro Rosso team for next season with Pierre Gasly being promoted to their big sister team in Red Bull.
And Sainz says his old team-mate certainly has the ability to make a return to the sport and the Red Bull group who dropped him in 2017.
“I do have a bit of a personal feeling [about Kvyat] because I do feel Dany is one of the most talented drivers I have ever raced against,” Sainz told motorsport.com.
“When he left Formula 1, I don’t know why, I had this feeling that one day he would make it back.
“Every time I have been against him, in all categories, he sometimes, somehow always find a way back.
“Back to performance, or back to F1, or back to the Red Bull programme, whatever.”
