Carlos Sainz has revealed he will be asking Fernando Alonso for advice ahead of the 2019 season. After 17 years in Formula One, Alonso walked away from the sport at the conclusion of the 2018 campaign after struggling to mount any serious challenge for a third world title since his time at Ferrari.
The Spaniard finished 11th in the Drivers’ Championship this year with McLaren and his seat has now been filled by compatriot Sainz, who makes the move from French manufacturer Renault.
Sainz will be under a degree of pressure in 2019 as he is the only Spanish driver on the grid, and he has revealed he will be searching out Alonso to have a chat about several things.
“Definitely yes,” he said. “I look forward to meeting him in the off-season to ask him some questions about F1 and McLaren and also to speak to him not only as a Formula 1 driver but hopefully a bit more as a friend.”
Sainz will be partnered with Lando Norris, a British rookie who has been a McLaren junior since 2017, next season.Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
