Former Super Eagles defender, Sam Sodje, has thumbed up the national team following an impressive 3-0 win against the Hawks of Togo in Thursday's international friendly at the Stade Municipal de Saint Leu La Foret in Paris, France, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Ahmed Musa (brace) and Kelechi Iheanacho scored Nigeria's first half goals against the Hawks as they prepared for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Africa in nine days time.
Sodje who had four caps for the Nigerian national team spoke with Completesportsnigeria.com on Thursday night about the buildup game.
"I think the win and the fact that the coach introduced lots of good players are good for the national team because
"It shows we have a lot of quality players to pick from in the future and personally, I love the result as we kept a clean sheet," the former Reading, Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion defender told Completesportsnigeria.com.
"That result in Paris will be a big boost for the defenders going into the Nations Cup and World Cup qualifiers proper."
Asked whether the Super Eagles need a more physical players at the backline, the younger brother of another former Nigeria international Efe Sodje said it was ideal
"I kind of share that opinio, but as I always say ,there's coaching of how to defend. So I think we need that physical aspect in the national team like we had it when the likes of Uche Okechukwu, Uche Okafor, Austin Eguavoen, Ben Iroha and others played.
"The players there now aren't doing badly anyway. It's not just about the brawl, you need technical players too," Sodje stated.
Gernot Rohr and his team earlier on Thursday welcomed officials of the Nigeria Football Federation and national team sponsors Aiteo Group at the team's Hyatt Regency Hotels abode.
