Newcastle striker Sammy Ameobi has been ruled out of Saturday’s clash with Chelsea and will be assessed next week ahead of the Toon’s trip to Arsenal.
The England under-21 international suffered an injury in Newcastle’s 1-1 draw at Burnley on Tuesday night and looks likely to sit out the next two games, but it isn’t all bad news for Alan Pardew.
The unpopular boss could welcome four first team players back for Chelsea’s visit of St James’ Park, with captain Fabricio Coloccini and Rolando Aarons returning from injury as well as Jack Colback and Moussa Sissoko no longer suspended.
That foursome will add much needed bodies and quality to Pardew’s side who have failed to win their last two after going on a superb run before hand.
One defeat in nine is still impressive and Chelsea will need to be on their guard heading to the north east.
Losing Ameobi is a blow though, as he has become a key man this season with the goals not exactly flowing from any of the Toon strikers.
Pardew admits he will be without the 22-year-old but is expecting a response against Chelsea.
“We lost Sammy, by the looks of it, to an injury, so that’s bad news,” said Pardew.
“That’s one defeat in nine games for us now and we’re looking forward to Chelsea now.
“It’s a great game for our fans and we’re certainly looking to make a good account of ourselves.”
