Argentina head coach Jorge Sampaoli admitted that his players will have to play with all their heart if they are to claim a win against Group D foes Nigeria and progress into the knockout stages at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The South Americans face the prospect of exiting the competition early after picking just one point from their opening two games.
The Albiceleste were handed a 3-0 defeat by Croatia last week Friday and will need to beat the Super Eagles at the Krestovsky Stadium to stand any chance of staying in the competition.
“For us it’s a momentous game, I think both teams are going to do everything possible to qualify, that makes the match very attractive,” Sampaoli told reporters in Saint Petersburg on Monday.
“The week was difficult after the defeat, it puts us in the commitment to depend on a result, I am convinced that the team is going to win tomorrow.
“This game has to be played with the heart, we have to do everything possible so that Argentina is in the next phase.
“Nigeria have played with two different systems, they have very relevant players, with experience, Argentina will have to control the game so that there is no round-trip match.
“I’m sure tomorrow they will see the best version of the Argentine National Team in this World Cup.”
Sampaoli who is expected to make a number of changes to the side that fell to Croatia also spoke about finding a new role for the team’s captain Lionel Messi.
“I think the structure of the match with Croatia did not favour Messi, we try to improve and hopefully tomorrow we can receive more balls,” he added.
“Beyond the fact that I have the team in my head, I do not want to confirm it because I have not yet communicated it to the players.”
