Newcastle Midfielder Sangare Forced To Withdraw From Liberia Squad

Newcastle Under-23 midfielder Mohammed Sangare has been force to withdraw from the Liberia squad due to residency issues. Sangare was born in Liberia and moved to England when he was 14 but is keen to represent his country of birth at international level.

Liberia coach Thomas Kojo is keen to get him involved and previously called the midfielder into his squad for last month’s 1-1 draw with DR Congo.

However, he had to withdraw due to an issue with his UK residence permit and is still waiting for his paperwork to be re-issued.

The 19-year-old has been forced to pull out of the squad once again after being named in the party to face Congo-Brazzaville in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

“I can’t wait to play for Liberia but it’s this resident permit that is holding me back,” Sangare told BBC Sport.

“I have spoken to my manager and he wants me to go and play for Liberia. I really want to go to Liberia.

“This [residence permit] is out of my control now and there is nothing I can do about it, I have chased it up and the next appointment is in November.”
