Sangare Withdraws From Liberia’s Qualifier

Newcastle United’s Mohammed Sangare will miss Liberia’s clash against DR Congo on Sunday due to travel issues. Sangare, who joined the Magpies’ Under-23 squad in 2017, was set to feature in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier this weekend but he has been forced to miss the clash due to travel difficulties.

The 19-year-old has been unable to make the trip as he does not have a copy of his UK residence permit and this would cause huge complications when attempting to get back into the country on his return.

“Sangare has a valid Liberian passport but if he travels to Monrovia without his [residence] permit, getting back will give him problem,” LFA manager Sebastian Collins explained.

“We thought it would be in the best interest of all parties that he secures his document before coming to Monrovia. He tried to fast-track the issuance of his residence permit, which went missing – but it will be issued next week.”
