Manager Domenico Tedesco says Schalke’s 1-1 Champions League draw with Porto was a “step in the right direction” for his side. Tedesco led Schalke to a second-place finish last year in his first season in charge as the Royal Blues secured a return to the Champions League after a three-year absence.
However, Schalke have lost their opening three games of the season in the Bundesliga and the 33-year-old’s position as boss has come under scrutiny.
Tedesco welcomed the draw with Portugal’s Porto but is well aware further improvement is needed if Schalke are to enjoy the same levels of success they did last season.
“The game against Porto was a crucial step in the right direction,” said the 33-year-old.
“It was a positive signal. It was important to see that kind of mentality and attitude from my players.”
Schalke face the prospect of a home match against champions Bayern Munich on Saturday as they seek their first points in the Bundesliga.
