Newcastle’s Ayoze Perez says the season starts now after a difficult run of opening fixtures. The Magpies have taken just one point from their first five matches, sealing a stalemate at Cardiff, although things could have been far better had Kenedy converted a stoppage-time penalty.
Their other games have finished in defeats but they have come against Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal.
It means that on paper at least, things should start to get easier for Rafael Benitez’s men, with Crystal Palace next up on Saturday.
After suffering from similar issues last term, Perez has called on the players to use their experience and ensure they make the most of what looks a more favourable run of fixtures heading into the winter months.
“Everyone has to play against the top sides, but now we’ve got to think about the next game – our season starts now,” said the forward. “We have to know where we are and where we want to be.
“It’s the same situation as we were in last season, and this is the moment to start getting points.
“The team is doing well most of the time. Sometimes there’s a lack of concentration, and I think that can make a difference.
“Now we are playing against teams who are in our league, and there will be more chances to get points.”Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
