Senegal 2015 Qualifiers: U23 Eagles May Face Ghana Hurdle

–Nigeria Women  U17s, U20s also know World Cup Foes

The Confederation of African Football has  conducted the draw for the qualifying campaign of the African U23 Championship to be held in Senegal in December 2015 which serves as qualifiers to the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janiero, Brazil.

The Nigerian U23 side, Dream Team VI will play in the 3rd Round of the qualifying stages.

Samson Siasia’s team, gathers, will on the weekend of 17th, 18th and 19th of July as well as that of July 31st; 1st and 2nd August, 2015 face the winner of the 2nd Round clashes between Ghana and either Liberia or Congo.

Interestingly, Nigeria’s U23 national team coached by Siasia overcame Ghana over two legs in 2007 to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympics where the Dream Team V won the silver medal, losing 1-0 in the final against Argentina.

Draws for the Preliminary rounds of African qualifiers to the 2016 FIFA U17 and U20 Women’s World Cups were also staged on Wednesday morning at the CAF Headquarters in Cairo. Egypt.

Nigeria’s women U17 and U20 national teams now know which countries they must overcome to reach both tournaments.

Nigeria’s U20 national side, the Super Falconets, who are two-time runners up at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup have been drawn bye for the First Round of qualifiers to the 2016 FIFA U20 World Cup.

The Nigerian women will face the winner of the Preliminary Round ties between Sierra Leone and Liberia.

Both West African countries will face-off over two legs on the weekends of May 1st, 2nd and 3rd and 15th, 16th and 17th 2015, with the victors playing Nigeria on the weekend of 10th, 11th and 12th July as well as 24th, 25th and 26th July 2015.

The Nigerian U17 women  side, The Flamingoes,  have also been drawn bye from taking part in the Preliminary stages. They will kick start their qualification bid with a First Round date against the winner of the Preliminary round fixtures between Botswana and Namibia.

The first and second leg matches of the First Round fixtures involving the Flamingoes will hold on the weekends of January 8,9, 10 and January 22, 23, 24 of 2016.

Meanwhile Botswana and Namibia will square up in the Preliminary stages on the weekends of 27, 28, 29 November and 11,12, 13 December 2015.
