The Old Lady have won the league crown for seven successive seasons, but there are suggestions the wind could be about to change
The coming weekend (18-20 August) will see the start of the new Italian football season – Serie A, the top flight of the national football league. For close to a decade now Juventus have reigned supreme, but the likes of Napoli, Roma and Inter Milan could offer a more sustained challenge this season.
First things first
Before you go any further, head on over to the Oddsshark website, find your favourite betting site and get your very own account up and running via your credit card. As a brand new customer and with Italy’s Serie A all set for the big kick off, there should be several promotions and offers available to you.
Where should I be investing my money?
It would only be right to start with champions Juventus, who kick off their latest title defence away to Chievo. And all eyes will be on a certain Cristiano Ronaldo as he makes his debut in the black and white stripes of Juventus – the crowd will be expecting goals and plenty of them.
And unsurprisingly, the champions are the favourites to make a winning start to the season. You can back Juventus to take all three points at just 1.22, with Chievo out at 13.00 – a 4-0 win for the visitors is priced at 11.00, thereby offering more than a ten-fold return on any investment, according to the Oddsshark site.
Carlo Ancelotti makes Napoli bow
Napoli ran Juventus close last season. Having led the table for much of the campaign, a late stutter saw Juventus steal in and eventually win the title by just four points – the closest title race we have seen for years.
However, Napoli have since lost coach Maurizio Sarri and key playmaker Jorginho, both to Premier League club Chelsea. Stepping into the dugout is veteran boss Carlo Ancelotti, who has been there, done that and bought the proverbial T-shirt.
And he starts his spell in charge with a tricky encounter away to Lazio. The club from the capital finished fifth last term, only just missing out on qualification for the UEF Champions League, but have struggled against Napoli in recent years.
The southern club have won their last two away games against Lazio by a three goal margin and are the favourites once again in this curtain raiser. Napoli are at 2.40 to take all three points at the Olympic Stadium, although Lazio are only just behind them at 2.80.
Given the two sides are so evenly matched (on paper at least) a draw may well be the most likely result. A stalemate is at 3.40, while you can be more specific and back a 1-1 draw at a price of 6.50.
Roma look to make winning start on the road
One side who will be hoping to get closer to any title race will be AS Roma. The club finished third last season but seven defeats saw them end up a huge 18 points behind champions Juventus.
They kick off their latest campaign away to Torino, who finished in the top half last season. But despite being away from home it is the Romans who are the favourites to be triumphant in this clash.
You can more than double your money by backing the visitors to walk away with the points at a price of 2.05. Torino are at a much higher 3,40 and the technical quality of Roma – despite the losses of Alisson and Radja Nainggolan – should shine through.
A narrow 1-0 win for Roma is priced at 9.00, offering close to a ten-fold return on any investment. You could also more than double your money by backing under 2.5 goals in the game at 2.10.
Inter can offer more sustained title challenge
And finally, Inter Milan have made serious inroads during the summer transfer window to ensure they are ready to challenge serial champions Juventus at the top of the table. Coach Luciano Spalletti has extended his stay at the club until 2021, while the likes of Lautaro Martinez and Radja Nainggolan will bolster a hugely talented squad.
Inter kick off their campaign away to Sassuolo, who finished in the bottom half of the table last season, and the visitors come into the game as the favourites. Inter are at just 1.57 to take all three points, and a comfortable 2-0 win for the Milan club is priced at 7.50.
