Sessegnon Up For BBC SPOTY Award

Sessegnon Up For BBC SPOTY Award

Fulham star Ryan Sessegnon is among the 10 nominees for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award.

The wide man shone as the Cottagers were promoted from the Championship last season, scoring 16 goals and providing eight assists.

The 18-year-old’s performances saw him become the first player from the second flight to be nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

A footballer, Manchester City’s Phil Foden, won the BBC prize last year after he helped England claim the Under-17 World Cup. Wayne Rooney is another former winner of the gong.

Sessegnon’s rivals for the award include Commonwealth Games gold-medal-winning gymnast Georgia-Mae Fenton, Junior Wimbledon runner-up Jack Draper, 12-year-old table tennis star Anna Hursey and jockey James Bowen.

Completing the shortlist are swimmers Freya Anderson and Maisie Summers-Newton, athletes Kare Adenegan and Max Burgin, and rugby league’s ‘Woman of Steel’ Georgia Roche.

The winner is chosen by a panel which includes “key sporting talent from across the industry”, including representatives of the Youth Sport Trust, and will be announced this coming Sunday (October 21).

The main Sports Personality of the Year awards evening will be held in Birmingham on December 16.
