SHOCKER! U-23 Eagles Stranded In USA One Day To Japan Clash

The Nigeria U-23s are still stuck in Atlanta, the United States of America just one day before their opening Rio 2016 men's football event clash against Japan, Completesportsnigeria.com has been informed.

The team have now had their trip from their US training camp to Brazil postponed several times mainly due to a lack of funds from the sports ministry led by Solomon Dalung.

They were initially scheduled to travel on Sunday, then it was shifted to Monday.

Tuesday appeared to be a certainty, but Completesportsnigeria.com gathered that the team's plans to charter a private place were once again foiled by fund issues.

The sports ministry was supposed to pay for the chartered flight on Tuesday, but the money was not made available.

Dalung, who was expected to visit the team in Atlanta but instead spoke with them on the phone on Tuesday, is said to be co-ordinating desperate efforts to make money available for the team to reach Manaus, Brazil before their first group match.

The U-23 Eagles face Japan on Thursday night, 2am Friday Nigerian time.

Nigerian football has lately been severely affected by funding shortages with coaches' salaries not paid and players threatening to boycott matches due to unpaid allowances.
