Erstwhile Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer, Ike Shorunmu, is optimistic that CHAN Super Eagles will edge the Squirrels of Benin Republic in Saturday’s 2018 African Nations Championship qualifiers second leg at the Sani Abacha Stadium January, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
In an exclusive chat with Completesportsnigeria.com, Shorunmu said he was aware of the daunting task in front of the team, but expressed confidence in the ability of the coach Salisu Abubakar’s side to come away with the needed result.
“They should have no problem beating Benin Republic. Yes I know they lost the first-leg 1-0 when the game was almost over, but I strongly believe the team is good enough wade off Benin’s threat on Saturday, ” Shorunmu told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“Coach Salisu Abubakar is doing a great job with the team and come Saturday, Benin should be kept at bay while our players go for the kill. I just want our fans to rally behind the team and cheer them to victory in Kano.
“They did not play badly in the first leg if what we read is anything to go by, but this is the players’ chance to prove to the chief coach that something good can come out of our league.
“I urge them to remain focused and not play under pressure even if the first goal refuses to come. It is in our hand now and the home boys will surely not disappoint.”
