–Ex-int’l cautions F/Eagles ahead AYC semi final clash
Former Nigeria goalkeeper, Ike Shorunmu has reminded U-20 National team, Flying Eagles that Wednesday’s Africa Youth Championship, semi final clash with West Africa bitter rivals, Ghana will be tough and should not be approached with kids glove.
“At this stage you don’t expect any game to be easy especially when you consider the rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana who are next-door neighbours,” says Shorunmu.
“Both teams have booked the World Cup ticket but that will not take away any shine from the game considering the bitter rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana which cuts across all levels of competitions,” Shorunmu added.
Shorunmu who is Super Eagles assistant coach stressed that the Flying Eagles should give their utmost all in the game, reckoning that victory over the Black Satellites will push them one step towards the AYC final.
“The World Cup ticket is already in the bag but then a win over Ghana will earn them a ticket to the AYC final and possibly the trophy, who knows.
“To do this, it is important for them to step up their game from what they put up against Ivory Coast in the last group A match on Saturday.
“I’ve no doubt the spirit in the players is high as evidenced in the game with CIV. Of course, they should take the games as they come.
“Whether the Flying Eagles have what it takes to lift the trophy, why not. Let them first overcome Ghana and progress to the final. Anything can happen and I believe the potential is there for them to win the cup”, Shorunmu who stood between the sticks for Turkish club, Beskitas said.
