Shorunmu: it’s painful losing Agbonavbare

–Eagles assistant coach describes late player as a jolly good friend
By Bamidele Boluwaji:

Super Eagles assistant coach Ike Shorunmu has expressed great shock at the passing away of USA ’94 Nigeria’s World Cup star, Wilfred Agbonavbare who died in Spain Tuesday morning after a protracted cancer affliction.

Reacting to the death of the former Rubber Board FC and New Nigeria Bank FC player, Shorunmu recounts the good time they both spent together while on national assignment.

“It is painful to hear that Agbonavbare is death, I only got to hear few days ago that he was suffering from cancer and I have been praying for him until I heard this afternoon (Tuesday) that the man was dead, it is very unfortunate that we had to lose another person after coach Musa Abdullahi but I pray that Allah grants him rest and also forgives him”, says the former national team player.

Shorunmu also pray for the family he left behind to have the heart to bear the lost.

“I can only condole with the family he left behind and pray that God gives them the heart to bear the lost.

Shorunmu who also remembered the good days they shared together in camp, described late Agbonavbare as jolly good friend who was not known for discrimination and was very professional as well.

“He was a jolly good friend to me and other players during our days at national team camp; he played with everyone without discriminating. I remember in those days, when they remove him for me or when they removed me for him, he would try to make the environment lively unlike some players that would be angry, oh, it is a big lose.
