–Says friendly matches will help Eagles
Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer Ike Shorunmu has hailed Daniel Akpeyi following his impressive performance against South Africa in Sunday’s 1-1 draw in Nelspruit.
Akpeyi who replaced injured Vincent Enyeama, pulled strings of great saves and even stopped a second half penalty to cap a wonderful display.
In a chat with Complete Sports, Shorunmu said he hopes the Warri Wolves player keeps up the good performance.
“He did his best and we look forward to seeing more of that. He was very impressive and also added life to the game. He has been with the team even before the World Cup and I believe that this is God’s time for him.”
Shorunmu went on to praise the players for holding South Africa to a draw following their 1-0 defeat against Uganda in Uyo last week Wednesday.
He posited that the two friendly games will help the team prepare well for the qualifiers for the 2017 AFCON.
“We thank God the match against South Africa did not end like the Uganda match. We have learnt from the two games and I am sure that the experience from these two games will help us in June when 2017 qualifiers start.”
