Shorunmu: Why We Dropped Agbim

Super Eagles assistant coach Ike Shorunmu has explained the reason behind Chigozie Agbim’s dropping from the senior national team’s friendly matches against Uganda and South Africa this week.

Speaking to Complete Sports on Sunday, Shorunmu who was part of the Super Eagles squad to the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea/ Japan said the former Warri Wolves goalkeeper was dropped from the team when the player’s where about could not be established, hence the decision to invite another goalkeeper for the two friendly matches.

“We said from the start that players from our league will be given the opportunity to try their luck in the national team and we have been doing that since we came on board and we are seeing the result. Agbim has been part of the team from time but this time around, we tried to look for him but we could not get him. We made effort to get his coach and he told us that his where about is not known”, begins Shorunmu.

“As I talk to you now, we don’t know where Agbim is and we have to give more players the opportunity to try their luck in the national team and we are hoping that the players we have invited will give their best.
