The open screening embarked upon by the technical crew of the Nigeria U-23 team led by Samson Siasia for the home-based players ends today (Friday), Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Siasia stressed that the country’s finest players under the age of 23 who have been invited to the camp should see the invitation as service to their country and insists there will be no going back on today’s closing date of the open trials for the home-based players.
“The screening for the home-based players will end on Friday. The players received notification to be in camp on specific days, so they had sufficient time to make it to the camp.
Siasia however assured players who were not able to make the screening exercise for no fault of theirs that the door of the team is still open for them.
Dolphins FC striker Emem Eduok was expected in the camp but is nursing an injury.
“It is a thing of pride to play for one’s country. Those who couldn’t make it for one reason or the other like injuries have gotten in touch with me and I quite understand their situations.
“I would like my players to give their best, so those players still have a chance to be back in the team in future after they have sorted out their problems.
Siasia says there is need to concentrate on the foreign-based legion who are expected to arrive camp on Saturday.
“Due to the short time available for the technical crew, we need to concentrate on the foreign-based players expected to start arriving the camp of the team from Saturday (December 6) because their screening starts on Monday (December 8),” the former Flying Eagles coach told the media.
