Siasia: Mikel’s Absence From Friendlies Good For Super Eagles

By Bamidele Boluwaji:

Former Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia says the inability of Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi to play against Poland and Serbia in the two international friendly games will help coach Gernot Rohr to try other players in his position, as the China-based star will be available for other friendly matches before the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Mikel, who captained the Siasia-led U-23s Eagles to the Rio Olympic Games bronze medal in Brazil, could not feature in the two friendly matches due to travelling documents renewal that made it difficult for him to travel out of China where he plays for Tianjin Teda FC.

“It is unfortunate that Mikel will not able to travel to London for the match against Serbia having missed the Poland match,” Siasia told CSN.

“We all know his influence and what he can do in the team but the fact that he is not available will give the coach the opportunity to try other players in the position.

“There are many players in the camp and I believe we still have more friendly matches to play before the World Cup which he will definitely be part of.”

Speaking on the Poland match which the Super Eagles won 1-0 at the Municipal Stadium in Wroclaw last Friday, Siasia said: “The match against Poland was not bad, the Super Eagles played well and with that, I am sure they will keep improving but they need more understanding to get it right.”

Nigeria will play another friendly against Congo DR in May before facing England and Czech Republic.

You’re right because our experience in US19o4 world cup our game with Italy where Amuneke and Amokachi where tactically removed by Italians and our game with France in South Africa where Onazi was tactically remove by the French. In each these occasions we found the team in bad shape. We need good replacement in every aspect. Even in replacement of the aging players

When Success got injured in FIFA U17, Iheanacho was discovered; when Enyeama and Oliseh had bust-ups, Carl Ikeme arose. so when key players are missed, more hungrier talents are found. Secondly, when we thrashed Argentina 4:2, V. Moses was not there; Poland, Mikel missed…is good for us so that at the world cup our opponents will not have us all figured out by watching our performances during the international break. Oops!It seems they are already afraid of us as Iceland are staging a diplomatic withdrawal. No matter the euphemistic vocabulary used, the summary is that they are running away; let’s face it, can they lift the global trophy in place of Nigeria?

This boys playing Serbia in London were jokes all the defense should be dropped immediately. This mediocre team or nonsense selection if you like. This Super Eagles in London is never any quality for world cup and we must definitely call a spade a spade and nothing will happen, please do not use anyone of those defenders that played in London for the world Cup squards.Meanwhile, some aren’t even good enough for our local leagues in Nigeria. That’s what I thinks and that’s my opinion. If you think I’m being so harsh just listen to the London commentators of that march Super Eagles march in London hear what they are saying about this team.
