Siniakova Seals Czech Fed Cup Joy

Katerina Siniakova expressed her relief after sealing the Czech Republic’s 3-0 win against the United States in the Fed Cup on Sunday. The Czechs went into the day’s action with a commanding advantage after Siniakova and Barbora Strycova won Saturday’s opening-day singles matches in Prague.

And the 22-year-old world number 31 knew a win in the first rubber against 19-year-old, 52nd-ranked, Kenin, would seal their sixth Fed Cup title in eight years and an 11th overall without key duo, Karolina Pliskova and two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitová in the ranks.

And, while Kenin had two match points during the clash, Siniakova managed to save them as she battled on to a 7-5 5-7 7-5 victory in three hours and 45 minutes.

Afterwards she said: “It was an incredible game for me, up and down, lots of nerves. I’m just terribly happy I’ve won. “I was so nervous I can’t describe it and I’m really looking forward to some time off.”

It was only the third time the Czech Republic had got the better of the United States in 13 meetings, although the visitors were without Sloane Stephens, Serena Williams, Venus Williams and Madison Keys.
