Real Sociedad have appointed B team boss Imanol Alguacil as their new coach after sacking Asier Garitano. La Real have lost four successive matches and are sitting down in 15th place in La Liga, which has prompted president Jokin Aperribay and director of football Roberto Olabe to end Garitano’s tenure six months after he was brought in from Leganes.

It is being suggested that a number of the players had lost confidence in Garitano and they decided to give Alguacil another chance in the top job after he guided the team to 16 points in nine games late last season when he stepped in to replace the sacked Eusebio Sacristan on an interim basis.
In a statement, the club thanked Garitano “for all the contribution, professionalism and dedication he has shown during the exercise of his duties in the management of the first team”.
Alguacil’s first game in charge of La Real is away against Real Madrid in La Liga following the winter break on January 6.
