Former Super Eagles midfielder, Kingsley Sokari, has received a top honour once again in Tunisia with his club, Club Sportif Sfaxien, crowning him their top player for the month of November, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
In a brief ceremony after Wednesday’s training, the club’s President, Moncef Khemakhem presented Sokari with his framed portrait, with the inscription: PLAYER OF THE MONTH #NOVEMBER2017.
It was a deserved recognition for the ex Enyimba of Aba dynamo who has been in scintillating form for CS Sfaxien in the current campaign; both in the domestic league competition and the CAF Confederation Cup, where he was instrumental in propelling a depleted side to the quarter-final stage.
Sokari, who shone for the Flying Eagles at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand, was the top pick of the fans after winning Man of The Match accolades in three of the four games played by Sfaxien in November.
Apart from being chosen as their team’s best player as CSS garnered a hat trick of victories in consecutive matches against Ben Guerdane (November 22), Metlaoui (November 26) and CA Bizertin (November 30), Sokari also earned high marks for his performance against Medenine on November 16). It was a 100% record for the club, which took them to second spot in the league table.
“I was very happy and elated,” the 22 year old told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“I have been told it is the first time a black player is winning the Player of the Month award in the history of the club, and this makes it a bit more special.
“I’m grateful to the fans for appreciating my contribution to helping the club do well and also to my team-mates whose support was also crucial.
“I can say that this will motivate me more to help the team win the title.”
Since joining Sfaxien in December 2015, Sokari, who has also played for Nigeria at under 23 level, has been winning individual honours, including the best foreign player in the league in the 2016/2017 season.
However, he is yet to win any honours with the club.
