By James Agberebi:

Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi was in action for his club Chippa United on Saturday as they escaped relegation on the final day of the South African Absa Premiership following their 0-0 away draw against Free State Stars.

Chippa United needed to avoid defeat against Free State Stars to stand a chance of beating the drop and they achieved that by holding their hosts to a stalemate.

Akpeyi, who joined Chippa United from Warri Wolves in 2015, made 28 league appearances for the South Africa club.

The draw means Chippa United finished 13th on 28 points in the 16-team league table.

They had the same points as Baroka FC who finished 15th but Chippa were ahead on goals difference.

Baroka will now feature in the relegation play-off.
> Chippa United won six, drew 10 and lost 14 of their 30 league games in the league which was won by Bidvest Wits.
