South Africa U-23 coach Owen Da Gama has tipped hosts Brazil and Nigeria as favourites for the football gold at 2016 Rio Olympics which kicks off next week.
Nigeria U-23s are drawn alongside Sweden, Japan and Colombia in Group B, while South Africa are in Group A with Brazil, Denmark and Iraq.
In a chat with cafonline, Da Gama, 54, whose side will take on Brazil in their first game, said he is relishing the encounter.
“We know it’s going to be tough,” said Da Gama. “They’ve got some great players, but the challenge is also going to be an opportunity for us.
“I think there’s going to be a lot of pressure on Brazil, and the longer we can hold them off the better. It’s going to be a fantastic experience and I think we can acquit ourselves well.
“It might bring us luck. Who knows? (Playing against Brazil) I always prefer to start off against the big teams, though, and I think Brazil and Nigeria are the best two sides. After that, the only way is up.”
