Bafana Bafana head coach, Shakes Mashaba and former star midfielder,Teko Modise want the team to make a statement to the world by beating Nigeria in Uyo on Wednesday in the final game of the 2015 AFCON qualifiers.
Mashaba led the Bafana Bafana to qualify for the African mundial courtesy their 2-1 victory over Sudan in Cape Town on Saturday but he says the job is not over yet as he wants to end on a high by preserving the team’s unbeaten run in the group stage.
The coach said his players will not rest on their oars as a win over Nigeria would mark a very important turn in their history.
“No, I know people are going to say that it’s just a walkover,”
“We’re still going to play our best team. It’s more than three points when you go to Nigeria, there are a lot of things that we’re going to be playing for. It’s going to be another tough game like the one we played today.’
“They could not beat us in Cape Town and we were a bit timid in front of goal. This time, we have more confidence in ourselves and our position in the group shows how determined we want to succeed,”he said and Modise echoed Mashaba’s sentiments.
Modise, who is capped 66 times with Bafana, believes that Bafana Bafana are well prepared for Wednesday’s game.
“I trust that coach Shakes Mashaba and the troops are ready for the match against Nigeria. The team needs to finish what they started and this is the chance to do so,” the 31-year-old midfielder said on his own official website.
Victory over Sudan at the Moses Mabhida Stadium secured qualification to the 2015 Afcon tournament in Equatorial Guinea, and Modise encouraged Bafana to win again in Nigeria as a way of stamping their authority.
“We can even take it further by defeating Nigeria on Wednesday, to make a statement to the rest of Africa and the world,” the former SuperSport United star added.
‘I am behind the team and I know that the nation is behind the team,’ the midfield maestro who has scored 10 times in Bafana colours concluded.
