Jordan Spieth is hoping to return to form this season beginning at this week’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. The American will be making his first appearance of the season in Nevada and will be looking to bounce back from what was an underwhelming 2018 by his own high standards.
The 25-year-old failed to register a win on the PGA Tour last season, although he did secure a top-10 finish at both the Masters and the Open Championship.
Spieth also missed out on a place at the season-ending Tour Championship, but he is no stranger to bouncing back from disappointing campaigns, as, after struggling in 2014, he returned to form by winning his first two majors the following year.
The world number 13 is confident he can achieve something similar this season, as he not only looks to return to the winner’s circle but also regain his place at the top of the world rankings. “I can look at ’14 into ’15 and sit there and say, ‘You know, the second I get disappointed in dropping seven or eight spots in the world ranking, by August of the next year I was back to number one in the world,” Spieth said.
“That can happen again. You know, it’s quick how things can kind of turn and change when you get a little momentum.”
Spieth has never won the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, but he admits he enjoys playing in Nevada and is hoping for a positive week this time around. “I’ve come to Las Vegas dozens of times now,” Spieth added. “I always love coming here. It’s a lot fun. It doesn’t really feel like you’re in the United States. You’re kind of in a different place here.”
