Who Is Your Sports Man Or Woman Of The Year 2014?

Merry Christmas and best wishes for theyear 2015 from the crew of Completesportsnigeria.com

As we celebrate with families and friends, we will like to know which Nigerian sports hero or heroine you think was the most outstanding in the outgoing 2014.

Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare had a top notch performance in the year.

The Beijing 2008 Long Jump Bronze Medalist is the reigning Nigerian and Commonwealth 100m & 200m Champion, and African 100m Champion as well.

Okagbare had a good outing at the Diamond League, especially in Shanghai where she won a double with Meet’s Records in the Long jump (6.86m) and 200m.

Okagbare is now the most prolific athlete of the Diamond League since its inception in 2010, notching up her 38th appearance in the series.

Vincent Enyeama was one of Nigeria’s bright spots at the summer’s World Cup in Brazil where he was arguably one of the top 10 keepers of the tournament.

The Lille keeper also had a good season with the Ligue 1 side and kept so many clean sheets which culminated in his being nominated for the 2014 CAF Player of the Award, though he lost out in the BBC Award to Algeria’s Salim Brahimi.

Ejike Uzoenyi was the Most Valueable Player of the 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN), helping Nigeria to a Bronze medal finish in the country’s first appearance at the Nations Cup for African players based on the continent.

Maryann Usman won gold for Nigeria at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The physically-challenged star has proven her consistency at either the Games, the Paralympics or the All African Games.

Aruna Quadri in 2014 became the first black and African table tennis star to be ranked in the Top 30 in the world after a great Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland and the World Championship in Dusseldorf, Germany.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps officer is Africa’s top table tennis player and still has few more years to reign in the ping-pong sport.

The aforementioned are just a few of the stars who had a memorable year.

Do you have your choice star to flaunt here for recognition? Is there any sports hero/heroine you will rather nominate but whose achievement was not reviewed here?

Personally,I would say ALL those mentioned and any to be suggested should be celebrated. Nigeria didn’t do too well all-round but they have given Nigerians, reasons to smile,be proud and happy of their country. I’ll also want to suggest the Super Falcons for reclaiming their African female football crown, the Junior female team getting to the final at the world stage. And not forgetting Asisat Oshoala;the football diva of the moment. I will vote ALL of them…they are true Nigerians
