Spurs Insist On £30m For Lloris

Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy has slapped a £30million price tag on French international goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in a warning to Manchester United, writes Steve Bates in the Sunday People.

With Old Trafford bosses still uncertain whether Real Madrid target David de Gea will sign a massive new contract at United, Louis van Gaal has identified Lloris as his number one pick if the Spaniard wants to return to his home city.

Speculation is mounting in Spain that Madrid are close to making their move for £45million-rated de Gea once their Champions League semi-final tie with Juventus is decided on Wednesday.
And if de Gea does follow former club icon Cristiano Ronaldo from Old Trafford to the Bernabeu, Lloris would come into the reckoning as the only Premier League goalkeeper United would turn to.

Although United currently have former Barcelona star Victor Valdes as back up to de Gea, so far van Gaal hasn’t given him a minute of first team action.

And it’s believed if de Gea does want to quit Old Trafford van Gaal’s preference would be for Lloris not Valdes.

But United will have to pay top dollar if they want the Frenchman with Levy, a notoriously inflexible transfer negotiator, certain to play hard-ball having valued the 28-year-old keeper at a hefty £30million.

If United did pay up for Lloris, Spurs would attempt to sign Petr Cech from Chelsea with Levy believing he’d have more chance of signing the 32-year-old than Arsenal, who have also been linked with the out of favour Stamford Bridge star.

Tottenham paid Lyon an intial £8.5 million for Lloris in August 2012 with further performance-related payments up to another £3.5million.
