Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday secured their place in the semi-finals of the Emirates FA Cup at Wembley with a 6-0 thrashing of London side Millwall at White Hart Lane.
With the Premier League seemingly out of reach, the FA Cup provides Mauricio Pochettino’s side with their best chance at silverware this season. The club haven’t won a trophy since the 2008 Carling Cup.
Heung-Min Son scored a hat-trick with Dele Alli, Christian Ericksen and substitute Vincent Jansen getting the other goals.
Spurs had progressed to the last eight after a Harry Kane hat-trick secured a 3-0 win over Fulham in the last round.
Tottenham were dominant in the early stages despite losing Harry Kane to injury.
Harry Winks produced a ferocious strike from the edge of the box. His dangerous effort towards the bottom right corner was blocked by Tom King, who pulled off a superb save to keep the ball out of the net.
However Spurs’ endeavour paid off in the 31st minute when midfielder Christian Ericksen who came in for Kane scored with a snap shot.
Victor Wanyama’s header came off the bar six minutes later but South Korea forward Son made it 2-0 in the 41st minute when he unleashed a left-footed shot at the edge of the box.
Son again scored Spurs’ third goal in the 54th minute. Kieran Trippier played a terrific cross over to the former Bayer Leverkusen star who found some space inside the box and put the ball into the back of the net.
Alli and Janssen scored the fourth and fifth goals for the North London side in the 72nd and 80th minutes respectively.
Son then scored his hat-trick in the 90th minute which was his fifth of the Emirates FA Cup this season when the ball went under the Millwall keeper’s legs with his low shot.
