Durham batsman Cameron Steel has put pen to paper on a new deal which keeps him with the county until the end of 2021. Steel linked up with Durham in 2017 after starting out life at Middlesex and was quick to have an impact the Riverside.
The 23-year-old scored 638 first-class runs for Durham last season having extended his contract in July until the end of the 2019 campaign, and the club have once again reiterated their faith in Steel with another extension.
Cameron told the club’s official website: “I’m delighted to have extended my contract and to continue my development here at the Riverside. “It’s a special ground to play cricket at and my aim is to push for 1,000 Championship runs next season.”
Durham head coach Jon Lewis believes the future looks bright for the California-born batsman and has hailed Steel’s maturity. “We’re delighted with the progress that Cameron has shown during his first two years here and I’m convinced he will continue to develop even further,” he said.
“He’s just 23 but has shown excellent maturity with his red ball batting and how he handles himself in the dressing room.”
