Steele Hoping To Have Proved Himself

Jason Steele hopes to have shown Chris Hughton what he can add after impressing in Brighton under-21s’ defeat to Luton. The young Seagulls headed to Kenilworth Road on Tuesday looking to kick their EFL Trophy campaign off with a win but eventually went down 2-1 to a solid Hatters side.

Steele’s performance was one of a number of positives to come from the game, with the former England age group goalkeeper making a string of fine saves.
The 28-year-old joined Brighton over the summer after a spell at Sunderland but appears down the pecking order behind Mat Ryan and David Button.

Although a first-team chance is unlikely to come as early as the Seagulls’ next game against Southampton, the former Middlesbrough and Blackburn man hopes his display for the under-21s does not go unnoticed by boss Hughton.

Steele said: “It’s a massive positive for the boys to come here and really give their all. They never threw the towel in
“It was nice to get a chance and hopefully I’ve done myself a bit of justice as to why the manager has brought me in.”
