Fast bowler Dale Steyn is looking beyond the prospect of breaking Shaun Pollock’s record as South Africa’s leading Test wicket-taker.
Steyn, 35, currently sits level on 421 wickets with Pollock and looks set to own the record outright when he lines up for the Proteas in the first Test with Pakistan on Wednesday.
It would be a surprise if the fiery paceman did not pick up at least one wicket in Centurion but he has ambitions to scoop many more before the dust settles on his stellar career.
“I have a lot more wickets in me than just one more,” he said. “I haven’t saved myself just to take one more wicket than Pollock. There is a bigger goal at the end of the day,. “I do think it will be a beautiful thing to happen, if it happens.
It has taken a long time and these records are great things to achieve. I will be highly honoured, but I will get back to my mark and try to take the next one.”
Steyne’s career has been ravaged by injury in recent times and the man from Transvaal would have moved past Pollock already but for his fitness issues.Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
