HUNDREDS of Stoke fans have voted Victor Moses as man of the match on his debut against Portsmouth – but Jon Walters gave him a real run for his money.
An online Sentinel poll has seen Moses receive an average mark of 8.65 out of 10, with Walters (8.45) the only other player over eight.
Walters scored twice in a 3-0 win, while Moses caught the eye with some dazzling skills.
Charlie Adam and Peter Crouch received healthy marks over seven while Moses’ Nigerian compatriot at the club,Peter Osaze Odemwingie got 6.42,the third lowest by any of the 14 players who featured in the match.as the Potters secured their place in the third round draw.
Meanwhile Stoke City assistant manager Mark Bowen has suggested that Moses has finally been given the platform to display his best form after moving to the club on loan from Chelsea.
The Nigerian winger played a starring role in the Capital One Cup game, and Bowen believes that being a regular at the Britannia Stadium is certain to help him improve after being used sparingly by Brendan Rodgers during a similar spell with Liverpool last season.
“At the moment he is 99 per cent Premier League match fit and he tired a little bit in the second half and we brought him off to protect him,” the Welshman is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.
“With all due respect to Portsmouth he is used to playing against top-class defenders and causing them problems so it was maybe a tad easier for him tonight, but he showed what he has got and always had – and he just needs that platform.
“It is no good for a player of his ability to just have cameo performances, and hopefully we can give him the platform to do that this year.”
Moses is set to keep his place in the side for Saturday’s trip to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City.
