Stoke: We Were Poor Against West Brom

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Manager Mark Hughes made no excuses as Stoke City fell to defeat to Midlands neighbours West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Brown Ideye’s first half goal secured the Baggies their first win over the Potters at the Hawthorns since 2003.

Ideye’s compatriot, Victor Moses, played for 58 minutes for his on-loan side, Stoke City, before he was substituted by Mauro Arnatovic while Ideye played for 90 minutes before making way for Jonas Olsson.

Defeat in the Black Country meant City’s unbeaten league run came to an end following three consecutive victories.

“We’re very disappointed by the manner of our performance and the result,” he said to Stoke City Player.

Moses who has been in good form of late and his teammates could not replicate their form against Ideye’s West Bromwich Albion. Hughes remarked about that in his assessment of the players’ performance.

“To be perfectly honest, given what we have produced in recent weeks, we didn’t see that coming. We simply didn’t play well enough on the day.

“Sometimes you have to be honest and hold your hands up, the level of performance wasn’t what we expected and we didn’t produce.

“West Brom didn’t create too many clear cut chances, but they had more attempts than us and deserved the win.

“They got the (Ideye) goal early on and defended their lead very well, but we didn’t ask them enough questions.

“We didn’t have enough momentum or creativity to cause them enough real problems which would have got us back into the game.

“At 1-0 we were always in the game, but I have to be honest and say we didn’t put them under any sustained pressure unfortunately,” Hughes stated.
