England national team selector Ed Smith has described Warwickshire bowler Olly Stone as an “exciting talent” after his first call up. The 24-year-old has been named in England’s squads for the ODI tour of Sri Lankan next month and then for the three Test matches against the same opponents in November.
It follows a spate of new call ups and arrival to the squad with key players such as Alastair deciding to hang up their helmet sat international level.
Smith says the form the bowler has shown means he has warranted a call up to the squad.
“Olly Stone is an exciting talent who bowls with pace and skill,” Smith said.
“His 37 wickets in the county championship have come at an average of 12.27 and a strike rate of 22.22.”
