Barcelona extended their impressive unbeaten run this season in the Spanish LaLiga to 12 games after defeating Leganes 3-0 at the Butarque Stadium on Saturday.
Luis Suarez ended his five-game goal drought in style, firing in a brace in the encounter for his first goals in over a month.The Uruguayan had gone 478 minutes without scoring.
Brazilian midfielder Paulinho who came on at the start of the second half sealed the win right at the death with a cool finish.
The victory was Barcelona’s 18th in 19 La Liga Santander matches and also saw the Catalans giants move 11 points clear of their Madrid rivals, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, who both clash at the Wanda Metropolitano later on Saturday evening.
Leganes made a bright start in the opening stages but Barcelona went ahead when goalkeeper Cuellar spilled Paco Alcacer’s cross and Suarez pounced from virtually on the goal-line in the 28th minute.
Leganes had a chance to restore parity in the 35th minute through Alexander Szymanovski but Marc Ter Stegen was on hand to make a great save maintain Barcelona’s lead into the break.
At the second half, Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde made two substitutions, introducing Aleix Vidal and Paulinho for Nelson Semedo and Andreas Iniesta.
And on the hour mark, Suarez doubled his side’s lead to take his goal tally to five goals in nine league games.
In the 90th minute, Messi’s brilliant work down the left flank rattled the Leganes defence yet again as his flicked pass found Paulinho who tapped in Barcelona’s third which handed Leganes their third straight defeat in the Spanish La Liga Santander this season.
