Suarez Expects Fireworks

Barcelona forward Luis Suarez says he is still expecting fireworks in Sunday’s El Clasico, despite Real Madrid’s recent struggles. The reigning champions go into the clash with a slender one point lead over Espanyol at the top of the table but their recent run is not great with just one win in five in La Liga.

Real Madrid’s form is just as bad with no win in the last four and this could be Julen Lopetegui’s final game in charge as the Bernabeu hierachy weigh up axing the head coach.

The first Clasico of the season will also carry a little less star power than usual with Lionel Messi ruled out with a broken arm, while Real can no longer call on Cristiano Ronaldo after he left to join Juventus in the summer.

Despite poor teams struggling and two of the world’s best not playing at the Nou, Suarez is still expecting an explosive encounter.

“El Clasico is always El Clasico,” Suarez said in an interview on the club’s website.
“Look at El Clasico last year; we were practically champions already but the intensity was the same as in any Clasico. It’s like that, you’re always up for it.

“You do have to look at the teams’ most recent results but the Clasico is the Clasico and nobody thinks about the other team’s morale or if they’ve been playing badly or better.”
