By Mumini Alao at the Arena da São Paulo:
LIVERPOOL striker and current English Premier League player of the season Luiz Suarez last night pushed England to the brink of World Cup elimination when his brace for Uruguay inflicted a 2-1 defeat on the Three Lions.
Suarez scored in the 39th and 85th minutes, as Wayne Rooney’s 75th minute equalizer turned out to be only a temporary relief for England.
Having lost their first game 2-1 to Italy, England have no points on the board in Group D after two matches, although they can still advance if they defeat Costa Rica in their final game and other results go their way.
But the chances of that happening are quite slim and England look set to join Spain as the second former world champions to be eliminated in the first round of the Brazil 2014 World Cup.
