Success Subbed On As Martial, Mata Fire Man United Past Watford

By James Agberebi:

Manchester United cruised to a 2-0 win against Watford in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Saturday.

A goal in each half by Juan Mata and Anthony Martial sealed the win for United and move them to fifth on the log and one point off a top four place.

Watford's Nigerian forward Isaac Success was introduced for Craig Cathcart with seven minutes remaining in the game.

The win means United are yet to lose a league game to Watford at Old Trafford, winning eight and drawing two.

Also with United's win they become the first team to get to 2000 points in the Premier League.

Ibrahimovic should have given United the lead in the third minute but his volley off Antonio Valencia's cross went over the bar.

In the 11th minute, Henrikh Mkhitaryan went close for United only to see his low shot saved by Heurelho Gomes.

Watford eventually ventured forward after United's early pressure and almost took the lead on 18 minutes through Jose Holebas but his shot whistled just wide of the post.

United continued to pile the pressure and were rewarded on 32 minutes through Mata who swept in Anthony Martial's low cross.

Watford had a freekick in a very good area on 53 minutes but David de Gea palmed away Marco Zarate's goal bound strike.

United doubled their lead on the hour thanks to Martial who got on to Ibrahimovic's pass before shooting past a stranded Gomes.

Ibrahimovic almost extended United's lead on 64 minutes only to see his shot deflect off a Watford defender for a corner.

With 20 minutes left Watford poured forward for a goal and were a good chance but substitute Daryl Janmaat blasted over the bar from close range.

Watford had another chance on 74 minutes this time Troy Deeney's shot inside the box was punched away by De Gea.

And at the Riverside, Everton played out a 0-0 draw against Middlesbrough.

Nigerian youngster Ademola Lookman made his second start for Everton before going off on 73 minutes for Aaron Lennon.
