Officials of the club with Prince John Ola Mafo as head, players and coaching crew of team were at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Ondo  Province 1, Akure to thank God for the journey so far and commit the remaining part of the season to the hands of God.

President of the club, Prince John Ola Mafo who thanked God for the journey so far expressed happiness over the current position of the team having had a very difficult start.

"We must express big thanks and appreciation to God for where we are now, it’s not by our making, but the hand work of the most supreme being.

"We had a very difficult start that led to so many insinuations as regards the ability of the team to do well. But, we kept faith with God and continued to work hard, today, the story has changed " Mafo told Completesportsnigeria.com.

Mafo who is also Chairman of the Ondo State Football Agency, (ODSFA) said he decided to come with the players and officials of Sunshine Stars to the house of God after victories in the last three matches played by the former CAF Champions league semi finalists to honour his covenant with God.

"Before we played our matches against Wikki Tourists, Abia Warriors and Giwa FC, I made a covenant with God that if the team is able to record excellent results in the three difficult matches, I will bring the team to God for special appreciation and thanksgiving."

The Presiding Pastor, Mr Goke Kuti while thanking God for the lives of players and officials of the team, described the step as a right one.

"Let me congratulate you (Sunshine Stars) for your exploit, I also want to commend the club leadership for always putting God first.

"Anyone or organisation that realises the importance of God will never be put to shame and that is why am so happy for the God fearing leadership of the club."

Pastor Goke Kuti later led the congregation to offer special prayers for the club ahead of the 2nd round which kicks off this weekend and thanked God for the blessings of the past.
