Sunshine Stay Top, Wolves Down Enyimba

—3SC, Rangers, Heartland win

By Adeboye Amosu:

A commanding display at the Akure Township Stadium against Bayelsa United saw Sunshine Stars maintain their top position in the Glo Premier League on Sunday.
The Akure Gunners beat their guests 2-0 with Kingsley Eduwo and Tunde Adeniji getting the goals.
The win put coach Kennedy Boboye’s side on course for a first domestic title and in good stead for Wednesday’s crunch battle against Enyimba in Aba.
In Warri, Enyimba’s nine-game unbeaten run came to an end as the Peoples Elephant stuttered to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Warri Wolves.
Wolves striker Gbolahan Salami punished his former side as he smashed home a free kick on the edge of the box in the 43rd minute.
Parity was however restored on the stroke of half time when Christain Obiozor converted from the spot to pull his side back in the game.
Obiozor’s fifth goal in five games was however not enough to help secure a positive result in the encounter as Abu Azeez scored the winner for the Seasiders in the 65th minute.
Wikki Tourists leapt to second position on the log following a nervy 2-1 home win against El-kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri.
The Bauchi-based side endured a late rally by the visitors who laid siege to their goal area after Sunday Adetunji struck in the 84th minute to reduce the deficit.
Gbenga Ogunbote’s 3SC recorded the biggest win of the day, securing a comfortable 3-0 home win against Giwa FC at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba.
Oriental sides, Heartland, Abia Warriors and Rangers also enjoyed a memorable day as they secured comfortable wins against their opponents.
Heartland moved to fourth position on the log following a 3-1 victory against Dolphins with league top scorer Bright Ejike scoring his 10th goal of the campaign in the game.
Rangers were also in ruthless form as they handed Lobi Stars a 3-1 defeat at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, while Abia Warriors beat Taraba United by the same scoreline.
Kano Pillars’ title defence suffered a further blow as the champions fell 1-0 to Akwa United at the Akwa Ibom Stadium, Uyo.
The loss will no doubt increase the pressure on handler of the side, Okey Emordi, following their shock ouster from the Federation Cup on Wednesday.
The biggest shock of the day came from Ilorin where basement side, Sharks Football Club of Port Harcourt, beat Kwara United 1-0.
It was the first win for the Blue Angels under interim gaffer Festus Allen and the club’s second win of the campaign.
The last game of the day saw Nasarawa United and Ifeanyi Ubah FC play out a 1-1 draw.
Wikki Tourist 2 v 1 El-kanemi
Heartland 3 v 1 Dolphins
3SC 3 v 0 Giwa
