Super Eagles Beat Niger, Give Oliseh First Victory

By James Agberebi:

The Super Eagles won their first game under coach Sunday Oliseh, after they defeated Niger Republic 2-0 in an international friendly game in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Ahmed Musa, who maintained the captain’s arm-band, put the Eagles ahead from the penalty spot on 12 minutes following a foul on Anthony Ujah.

Efforts by the Eagles to double the lead before the end of the first half proved abortive as they failed to convert the few chances that came their way.

Prior to the start of the second half, coach Oliseh introduced Prince Aggrey for Usman Mohammed who was one of the outstanding players for the Eagles.

And in the second half, the Nigeriens put up a better performance but couldn’t break down a resolute Eagles defence led by Kenneth Omeruo and Godfrey Oboabona.

The Eagles made further substitutions with Emmanuel Emenike, Moses Simon, Bature Yaro, William Troost-Ekong and Ikechukwu Ezenwa, coming in for Carl Ikeme, Solomon Kwambe, Ahmed Musa, Sylvester Igbonu and Anthony Ujah.

And with five minutes remaining, Simon made it 2-0 when he pounced on a misplaced pass by a Nigerien player and smashed a left-foot shot pass the keeper.
