Super Eagles target Philip Billing has been linked with two Premier League clubs Brighton Hove Albion and Watford reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Billing is one of the highly-rated midfielder Watford sees as a possible replacement for Abdoulaye Doucoure – who is reportedly wanted by Paris Saint-Germain.
The Daily Mail also claims that Brighton and Hove Albion hold an interest in the player, who has been a regular starter in the Terriers’ midfield this season.
The Denmark Under-21 star is having a fine campaign and has become even more important for David Wagner in the absence of Aaron Mooy, who won’t be available again until February.
It seems unlikely Town would sell the 22-year-old while they are mired in a relegation battle but he could become a casualty of a summer clear out if Wagner’s side cannot retain their Premier League status at the second time of asking.
Recall that the Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr hinted in November that contact has been made with Billing to pledge his allegiance to Nigeria ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The highly rated 22-year-old is eligible to represent the Super Eagles by his parentage roots. He was born in Denmark and has already featured for the Danish U-19 and U-21 teams.
“One of my assistants leaving in England saw him (Billing) and spoke with him,” Rohr told CSN in November.
“There was a good contact but also we feel we have to be very cautious because the English Federation does not want to lose these players, we have to understand that also.
“The players have been formed and their academy work was done there (England) – the entire job done there.
“Now when the player is adult he says goodbye – I go with Nigeria. Not all those cases are pleasant. We have lots of cases like that in France with lots of Algerian players.”
“Lots of players l grew up in France and then they go to Algeria. It’s not easy to accept that.”
But they must really be motivated and excited to come with us. we will not push.”
“We can find players in the midfield, attack and in defence as well.”Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved. The information contained in Completesports.com may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed without the prior written authority of Completesports.com.
