The Super Eagles of Nigeria dropped two spots – from 44th to 46th, and are ranked fourth in Africa following the latest FIFA World Rankings released on Thursday, reports Completesports.com.
Three-time African champions, the Super Eagles, are behind the Terangha Lions of Senegal, Carthage Eagles of Tunisia and Atlas Lions of Morocco in the ranking of African teams.
The Gernot Rohr’s team are tied in the same position with Montenegro in the world ranking.
Nigeria’s opponent in next month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture, , are ranked 189th in the world.

Egypt, who the Super Eagles will face in a friendly game also in March are ranked 57th in the world and eighth in Africa.
There are no changes in the top five countries in the world occupied by Belgium, France, Brazil, Croatia and England.

I recall that le Guen, the man who was recommended by the technical committee of the NFF to be hired as Oliseh’s replacement turned down Nigeria because “a country who were not even in the top 10 in Africa on fifa rankings” shouldn’t be setting targets for him. That was just 2 and a half years ago. That we have only Senegal, Tunisia and morocco ahead of us now shows how much we have progressed ever since.
Just shows Monsieur Le Guen’s arrogance. We dodged a bullet there and thankfully so.
Rohr has moved us forward towards where we expect us to be. Highly the upward trajectory that we have made in the past 18 months will continue
The Super Eagles shouldn’t be bothered about their present rankings. Their sight should be fixed on winning the next AFCON and improved rankings can follow.
Their present position on the ranking ladder is enough to secure them a berth in Pot A and seeding when the draws for the AFCON group stages are done.
