How Super Eagles Rated In Draw Vs Algeria

How Super Eagles Rated In Draw Vs Algeria

Completesportsnigeria. com’s Adeboye Amosu rates the performances of Super Eagles players in their World Cup qualifier against Algeria in Constantine on Friday night…
Ikechukwu Ezenwa 5/10
The FC Ifeanyiubah  goalkeeper fluffed a cross on the hour mark but showed tremendous composure to dribble past Islam Slimani under pressure in the first half. Failed to stop the latter’s penalty for the Desert Foxes only goal. Shaky on occasion but decent overall.
Shehu Abdullahi 6/10
Performed his defensive tasks impressively but offered little going forward. Never really hit the standard he set in the Super Eagles previous game against Zambia.
Leon Balogun 6/10
Nearly conceded an own goal in the 34th minute and started poorly, otherwise it was another impressive showing from the the FC Mainz centre-back.
William Troost- Ekong 7/10
The Aiteo  CAF African footballer of the year nominee was arguably Nigeria’s best defender on the night. Had a solid outing against an Algerian attack that paraded deadly duo of Yacine Brahimi and Islam Slimani.
Ola Aina 7/10
The young defender was handed his first start against the Algerians and showed his class all through. Kept the dangerous Riyad Mahrez at bay and support the attack well.
Not one of his best games for the three-time African champions but did well to shield the back line from the marauding Algerian attackers.
A battling display from the Israeli-based midfielder who scored his side’s only goal of the game off a sublime shot from outside the area.
Failed to justify his selection in the game and it was a surprise he spent the entire duration of the game on the pitch.
Played in an unfamiliar wide forward role and never asserted himself inthe game.
The Arsenal winger came to life in the second half following a quiet first half display but couldn’t unlock the Algerian defence.
Had a well timed volley saved late in the first half otherwise it was a rather dull performance from the highly rated striker.
Took the place of Anthony Nwakeme 20 minutes from time and never really got going in the match.
Had to 10 minutes to prove his worth but couldn’t make an impact

For me Nwakeme and Etebor has no business in that team from today

  • Ha! On what parameters do you base your ratings? If the match was the exact one is I watched with rapt attention, then your ratings are wrong, especially that of Ola Aina. That guy was just too poor. If Echiejile is bad, Aina is worse. He needs to really improve. Look at how many times, Ezenwa chastised him in the course of the game.

  • Today’s match could be best describe as an experimental match.

  • Abeg were is vicent enyaema, na today I know the difference between akpeyi and ezewa like father like son

  • The referee messed the game up by awarding a penalty kick that wasn’t a penalty.

  • We still need good striker and a good creative and attacking midfielder. Also experience goalkeeper.

  • James Obinna 4 years ago

I will put much of the blame on d horrible pitch..

  • The pitch was horrible.. I wonder how dat field passed d FIFA requirement.. Never allow a free flow passes and moves.. The grass were pratically pulling off..

  • Joseph Alegu 4 years ago

It was such a poor playing surface that i could not accurately rate the players . And the quality of the game was made by that late controversial penalty

  • We need more experience goal keeper. Ezenwa’s nervousness will cost us at the world cup.

  • Complete Sports I Predicted 1-1 the correct score line in ur website.. Thanks

  • I predicted correctly ooooooooooo….!!! at complete sport in ur website.

  • We really need Enyeama

  • Bishop Joseph Santus Okpara 4 years ago

I’m not too happy about the draw, because I should have loved a total wining of this Algerians. I thought I was having a heart attack when they equalised through penalty in 88 minutes, just only two more minutes to the end of the match! We must try to avoid something like this next time. We must have to be more focused and careful. Because conceding goals this way is very painful to everyone watching the Super Eagles today. But having said this,Thank you boys, Super Eagles, you’re all wonderful and great players. Thank you so much.

  • The ref should be killed

    • KC Eze 4 years ago

“killed” … I guess what you write is figurative. Please in future you may wish to try and restrain yourself from using such words because a mad football fanatic or ” radicalised football militant” may ensure that your command is carried out. You know that footballer have spouses, children, parents and fellow citizens who love them. There is always somebody’s ‘bad day’. They tried their best representing 180 million people. There is life after football!

.First of all, our coach needs more technical reading of the game.he wastes too much time to sub players n his technicality is poor.nwakwem has no business in that team from now on. we need to bring in experience. obafemi martins and V. enyeama needed for world cup.as for etobo and kelechi im not happy with them at all there forms have dropped drastically.kelechi is not a number 9 the coach should get that in his head’he is good as a supporting striker. Ekong, shehu Balogun NDIDI, were the outstanding players in the game against Algeria. but really no coordination which is what i wanted to see today. just not happy with the way they played today. it is clear now to see we need mikel and moses in this team.

  • Aloysius Emedoh 4 years ago

overall, the guys tried, it is not easy to go to algeria to get a result.

  • Ayphillydegreat 4 years ago

Enough said about Ezenwa. I don’t think he’s the best gollie in the NPFL. I think Etebo was ok, maybe a little naive. Apart from that well timed goal Ogu was a tad slow for my liking. Joel Obi, Anderson Esiti, Abdul Ajagun and Azubuike Okechukwu deserves a chance in this team. I hope to see a more cohesive unit against Argentina on Tuesday.

  • uzodimma victor 4 years ago

abeg na where that ref come from?? How was that a penalty?? So africa football has now turn to a thing where everything possible has to be done just to calm the home fans??

    • Kenzie 4 years ago

This is what I’ve bn expecting someone to write. There was tension and de only tin de referee could do was to calm de tension cos I was scared de Algerian players and fans wil attack our players and even de ref. To me, de ref did dat to calm down tension.

  • I salute AFRICAN penalty nd Mock the ideal that Ezenwa is good enough to face the like of Messi nd Co

  • victor 4 years ago

they tried their best. football is a game of probability

  • I disagree with your ratings.

  • The pitch was not smiling…

  • I wish fifa wil see this comment , 1 the pitch is “O ” 2 the penalty is “O ” you can’t tel me that someone who is chesing his opponent with ball fell down and d opponent is still in possetion of his ball and u bluw a penalty nigeria won d game dnt mind dat refree

  • The truth of the matter is that we don’t have a world cup team. The keeper is not serious. We are lucky enough to escape. ….

  • Abdullahi 4 years ago

finally after months of trial I predicted rightly…..hope em lucky in the ballot

  • pls nobody should crucify ezenwa, afterall all goal keepers always have their bad and good days. Even d likes of degea buffon nuer etc sometimes hav their own night mares on d pitch

  • The keeper was so poor with the crosses

  • nwakeme not gud, onyekuru shld lead d line against Argentina, Etebo shld never b called up to dis squad again, instead kelechi Nwakali, Esiti or Joel Obi shld be called..Ezenwa, Ezenwa failed…let Akpeyi or Uzoho perform against Argentina, Troost will move to a better club,he is real.. gud. Iwobi is a flop when he plays imp matches for Nigeria, bt i can see his improvements. we lacked creativity in d middle, Etebo was unable to provide dat and mikel wont b playing for ever,we need Joel or Nwakali,Etebo.makes me sick. Kelechi gud at playing free kicks, bt where is Kelechi iheanacho ?

  • Generally the team was poor but I get it, it’s a dead rubber match

  • Super Eagle should have win this match, but that ref that awarded a dubious penalty should have been stone. Our team was not bad they tried. But technical crew must try and improve on technical reading, Nwakweame and Etebo should hav been substituted and Ebuehi should hav been given a chance. We really need a classic No.9 in this team. I will like our coach to give utrecht weapon a chance in the super eagles. Cyriel Desser has voice out to play for the super eagles we need a striker like him. Also experience players like martins and enyeama are really needed. Nwakweame and Etebo has no business in this team. We lack a playmaker in the absent of Victor Moses. Coach should try and invite players like Joel Obi, Anderson Esiti, Abdul Ajagun and Azubuike Okechukwu. Up Super Eagles

  • My man of d match go to John ogu because it’s a nice performance from him

  • ezenwa is poor with crosses… uzoho francix shuld be tested against argentttina… he is a better goalkeeper

  • I wonder why our coach keeps calling ebuehi…if we couldn’t use him in this kind of dead match that supposed to seal his playing for Nigeria forever then I wonder when he’ll get his chance. If he’s not good enuf, let d coach stop wasting d guy’s time. All we read is “he’s quick, Can make good crosses, he’s in my plans”.. What plan? Etebo?..I believe we can do better! Someone compared ola aina with echiejile up there…imagine echiejile in that match yesterday against mahrez? Whether aina fucked up or not, he silenced mayrez and DAT doesn’t stopped him from going forward. Mahrez even got suptituted because of him.

    • Everyone has their own time bro, Leon as well has sat on the bench too before he eventually got his call to the pitch.

  • uzodimma victor 4 years ago

i knew this match would definitely end in a stalement!! 1-1 my prediction

  • Ebisole 4 years ago

I dnt want to say much my point here is that we do not have a goal keeper ,and I know everybody here will agree to DAT, on several occasions ,our goal keeper was running around the players while the ball was being controlled by players , if the Algerians where experience like most world class played which we will meet at d World cup, yesterday game would have needed at least 3 – 1 in favor of the Algerians , pls I know our boys can do better as most of our key players did not make d match but our major problem is a goal keeper plssss a goal keeper o, no be did kind keeper we go carry go world cup, BARUWA better pass am ….lol

  • Paschal 4 years ago

    My rating is this:
    1. Ezenwa should never be invited again
    2. Iheanacho should be benched for Onyekuru
    3. Nwakaeme should never be invited again
    4. Ogu should become backup to Onazi instead of Mikel Agu. Agu has not justified his inclusion yet.
    5. Etebo is not bad. I think he did well but can be better.
    5. Aina was good but can be better
    6. Balogun was jittery in first half but came back in second. Fair display for him.
    7. Man of the match will have to be Ekong or Shehu.
    8. Iwobi needs to up his game. He was anonymous in first half but came alive in the second but no striker to finish up his moves in the final third.
    9. Kayode should lead attack against Argentina.
    10. Mikel should also come in against the Argies.

    • Bro, you spoke my mind. Walahi, you can read match wella. Nwakaeme was trying so hard to impress and cement his place in the team, he wasn’t passing the ball when another player was in a better position to score. And when Iwobi did all the work on the right flank, Nwakaeme was not setting himself up well like Ighalo would do to make it easy for Iwobi to pass to him and score. Conclusion: Nwakaeme is not the class of Super Eagles material. Same thing for Ogu, forget the flash in the pan goal. He was rusty (I don’t even get that big beard thing, shiorr!). He was not creative, and most of the time had no idea what to do with the ball. He frustrated the creative flow of Ndidi, Etebo and Iwobi. Overall, Rohr proved he’d always selected the best 11 to play, as only the regulars (Shehu, Ndidi, Ekong, Balogun) showed some flashes of brilliance. Others either struglled or were below par. Onyekuru has a striker’s hunger, but didn’t get fed with the ball. I don’t think Nwakaeme will not go to the world cup; same thing with Ogu. And please, Ezenwa should still be understudying, Rohr should never make the mistake of fielding him against Argentina. Ezenwa can cost Super Eagles important matches we should have won. Please, he’s getting too ahead of himself. I wonder who will keep the post in that match. Uzoho? He’s not been tried at a smaller level for SE.

      • Sorry, I mean I DON’T THINK NWAKAEME WILL GO TO THE WORLD CUP; SAME THING WITH JOHN OGU. Simply not good enough. Ogu is only good at shooting from a distance, he doesn’t really have dribbling skills or a true midfielder’s creative flair. His goal was a flash in the plan. He offered nothing else in the match. He and Nwaekeme weere short 2 for Nigeria in that match. We were literally playing 9 against 11.

  • GO SUPER EAGLE GO!! Reff is a stupid man.

  • Kenzie 4 years ago

The ref was scared cos de Algiers were angry and de ref was jus buying his head to come out of de pitch unscratched. 2ndly, he was must played betting dat de match will end in a goal goal draw.

  • Haba! Nigerians can’t we comment on issues without insulting? After we go dey call other people local an illiterate. I beg make una park well. U guys don’t know what its means playing a wonded team with stars in fronts of their unhappy fans. 100% super play by eagle joor!

  • Akinola 4 years ago

I am highly delighted to see Sheu Abdulahi career in a progressive trend. He was my man of the match n I hope he will continue the good form to the world cup.
Ogu is sensational bundle of skills with much confidence in his ability which were reflected in his ball control, capped with occasional thunder strike from outside box.
As for me Hammed Musa, Ihenacho, Etebo n Nwaekeme may not make it to the world cup.
Ezenwa is match rusty bcos of the league that is on break but nonetheless far far better than shaking shaking Akeyi, big stature without a single confidence in front of every goal boung ball.
Yesterday game show a piece of what to expect incase Mikel is injured or suspended.
For now I will suggest that the coach should begin to look at the direction of Brown Ideye, Alhassan Ibrahim and Obafemi martins.
We pray for carl to recover on time n regain his fitness as quickly as possible.
    God bless Nigeria.

I will only pick ndidi from the midfield trio last night. Etebo seem confused when on the ball and did nothing powering upfront, ogu was too cautious to my liking and wasnt adventurious moving forward either. Its now very obvious that mikel obi and onazi are undispensable in the team for now. I urge rohr and his scounting team to search for players who can solidify the team’s midfield and also influence the teams play as well. Kortrijk of belgium’s ajagun should be tested, lillestroms ifeanyi mathew as well and aston villa’s joshua onomah should be sounded out about representing nigeria amd should be incorporated into the team asap.
The teams defence so far have been solid through out the qualifiers but seem stronger with the addition of ola aina. The kid was unfazed yesterday playing an unfamiliar role. He was decent and assured on the ball, defended well and also joined the attack when the need arose. His emergence have definently put an end to elderson’s super eagles career. Shehu keeps on improving, one will find it difficult that he’s natural position on the field is not at rb. Nwakaeme was too robotic to my liking, iheanacho played better when deployed as a lone striker, onyekuru was lively but had little time to showcase his obvious talent, ezenwa was a calamity waiting to happen( his departement in the team is a major problem and their is need for enyeama to be recalled). The team is solid but just need few additions to be ready for the worldcup.

Players i think can thicken the team
kelvin akpoguma-hoffenheim cb/rb( will be a good cover for the 2 centre halfs)

joshua onomah- aston villa am/cm(will serve as an understudy/cover to john obi mikel)

brian idowu-amkar perm lb/cb/dm(a versatile player who will be a good alternative in the lb position)cha

  • Nobody should beg Enyeama to come back….What we need is a very tall goal keeper to deal with crosses and corners just like Carl Ikeme before he became sick. Goal keepers are supposed to be very tall. Look at the current best keepers in the world like Buffon, Neur, Stergen, De Gea e.t.c…they are. tall guys. Ezenwa and Enyeama are not tall and will always have difficulties dealing with crosses and corners. Crosses and corners really dealt with Enyeama in our loss to France at the 2014 World Cup. Akpeyi is tall, but lack confidence. When in goal, you can virtually see him shaking and trembling with great fear. Francis Uzoho has a very good height. All he needs is confidence and skill to excel. I therefore suggest that Rohr should prepare him and give him a try against Argentina. With his height, at least, crosses and corner won’t scare us again.

  • It was a decent performance by the team. Even CAF has come out to criticise the referee for creating an imaginary penalty. Ekong is bringing us back back to the days of the Gentle giant Uche Okechukwu- rock solid & my man of the match. Etebo is a good player but had a bad day. Nwakeme should try again after the world cup. Ezenwa should only go to the world cup as one of the back up gkps but still better than Akpeyi who gets nervous & can’t organise his defence line. Uzoho should be given a chance in our friendlies. Enyeama if fit should be recalled for his experience if we don’t want an early exit at the world cup.

  • Na watin we dey complain for my end if not iwobi for yeye them.
