AUSTIN EJIDE: Commanded his area very well as he looked assured when coming out to claim crosses. Did well enough to block a shot after failing to parry the ball from a corner kick. Was vital for the Eagles when he made a one-on-one save in the 84th minute (6)

EFE AMBROSE: Couldn’t venture forward as usual due to the fast paced South Africans. Made a good block which was destined for the net following an attack. Struggled later on in the game as he decided to remain in the defence (5)

KENNETH OMERUO: Was the liveliest among the back four as he stood strong and thwarted every attempt made by the hosts most especially in the 16th minute when he made a timely intervention to prevent a South African from getting a clear scoring chance. Was called into action when he intercepted a scoring opportunity for the South Africans (6)

GODFREY OBOABONA: Got booked in the closing stage of the first half for a harsh tackle while the South Africans were about to launch a counter-attack. And like his defensive partner looked solid, providing protection for Ejide. (5)

ELDERSON ECHIEJILE: Did his own fair share of defensive duty which has prevented him from really going forward to support the attack and was guilty of giving the ball away carelessly. (4)

OGENYI ONAZI: The Lazio defensive midfielder was full of energy in the early part o the game as he threw himself into tackles which sometimes looked clumsy and sometimes almost cost the team. (5)

MIKEL OBI: He was a weak link and didn’t bring his experience into the game. His only contribution was to get into a scuffle after being kicked from behind. Gave the ball away more than any other player and always slowed down the team when on the counter. (3)

NOSA IGIEBOR: Was lively in the first half as he had the Eagles first shooting opportunity but blazed over the bar. Became anonymous in the second half before he made way for Sone Aluko. (5)

AHMED MUSA: Was involved in the Eagles’ first real opportunity when his right-wing cross was connected by substitute Osaguona Ighodaro but aside from that was ineffective in large parts of the match. (4)

GBOLAHAN SALAMI: After scoring in the game against Congo Gbolahan Salami was selected from the start but was a huge disappointment and will need a lot of convincing to do to get another call. (3)

EMMANUEL EMENIKE: Was given the nod to lead the Eagles attack after coming on as a substitute in the 3-2 loss to Congo but failed to threaten the South African defence which stood firm. (5)

Came in for the ineffective Gbolahan Salami and had the Eagles’ first real chance in the 81st minute but his goal bound header was cleared off the line. He was the Eagles’ only spark in attack (7)

SONE ALUKO: Replaced Nosa Igiebor in the 71st minute and had an opportunity in the 82nd minute but his tame shot went straight to the keeper which he saved comfortably. (5)

U a biased rating Musa (4) while channels TV rated him (7). What did mikel play that u rated him (5). Really absurd. Okay!

All these ratings should stop. This is where Nigerian coaches and fans always miss it.We give more attention to individual play than team cohesion.Of what use is it if a player is rated 10/10 but the team loses the game?
