Super Eagles Star Etebo Delighted To Join Stoke City

By Adeboye Amosu:

Nigeria midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo is thrilled to have joined English Championship club Stoke City, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Etebo, 22, joined the Potters on Monday from Portuguese club Feirense on a five-year deal reportedly worth €7.2million.

“Happy to be a Potter! See you guys after the World Cup!” he wrote on Twitter few hours after completing the move.

Etebo has been capped 14 times by Nigeria and came on as a substitute in last week’s friendly against England at Wembley.

He will be part of the Nigerian squad that will face Group D World Cup games against Argentina, Iceland and Croatia.

Etebo, who started his career with Warri Wolves in Nigeria, joined Feirense in 2016 and made 45 league appearances, scoring seven goals.

He made 12 appearances for Las Palmas whilst on loan with the team from Gran Canaria.

I see lack of ambition here, why rush to sign for Stoke city, a championship team when a good performance at the World Cup could attract a bigger club in the premier league or a club in one of the big 5 European leagues

    • steven okocha 3 years ago

not wise of him 2 have joined a championship side at all.the world cup might get bigger clubs attracted 2 him

      • And what if there’s no “big performance”? That is one thing we lack as Nigerians: impatience and want quick achievement. He did the right thing, Stoke might just be back in the PL after next season and if he plays really well, he might end up in a biger club after 1 season.

Oga, a Bird at hand is worth two in the Bush … So what if he doesn’t perform well at the world cup… This is what Nigerian football needs ,,, Good news.

But Stoke is definitely not an upgrade of the relegated Malaga. Will Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco players settle for this. No. Etebo is a rising star and he should be on an upward pedestal.

    This guy has fucked up

A powerful midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo for Stoke city!wonders shall never end.
Why didn’t Stoke sign him when they were in the premiership?
So he wasn’t good enough then right. But a great player now they are in the premiership.
Well it’s not their fault but the player who seem not to be ambitious.

Thinking too, my brother. They consider our players good only when they make a drop. Etebo should be playing in the EPL, no doubt. If he could do so well in LA Liga, he could do even better in the premier league. But that’s English football for you. And don’t be surprised. He could be sold or dropped after helping them secure promotion. At all at all na e no good. Stoke City is better than Feirense. Congrats bro.

    Oops! championship!

  • Poverty no bi Good Thing…i swear!

    • Father.JP 3 years ago

You just nailed it bro. Poverty has been the bane of Naija football nay footballers. Can’t understand why a player headed for the world cup will rush to sign for a Championship club

      • Omaskels 3 years ago

Bros ..Etebo is nt poor point of correction ..he has sign a nice deal..he saw d opportunity which many Nigerian players couldn’t get n he grab it..Stoke is a big club..wat if he doesn’t perform well at d world cup? Remember dat he is nt among d first 11,.wat if d coach doesnt play him at d world cup? Do u think it’s easy to sign a player dat is nursing injury? Stoke knw his worth dats why dey rush him..I bet u,Etebo will play EPL after at most 2 season..it’s a gud news to Nigerian football..

        • Tunsak 3 years ago

With all due respect Etebo that scored 4 goals in a match in the last Olympics should be playing if not the top 6 in EPL should be playing for mid-table teams like Burnley, Everton, Leicester, etc and not in the championship that’s the reason why part of the requirements for getting a work permit in England is that you play 75% of your national team matches. So how then will a member of our 23 to the WC settle for the Championship who does not care a hoot if you play for your national team. I repeat this player is lacking ambition.

  • Omaskels 3 years ago

A championship side is better than dos playing in isreal, lower club in ukraine, turkey n evn China..remember it’s a championship club in England nt Cyprus, take note ..it’s a gud move cos he can easily get to d premiership..wise players settle their carreer b4 going to d world cup to avoid distractions ..Eg kane signing a new deal for spurs..is he nt gud enough ? Why didn’t he wait after d world cup for better offers?. Abi una want make Etebo go bk to las palmas? Remember he is jst bk frm injury..Make Una leav d boy oo..Weldone Etebo..Nice move..Congrats n Welcome to England.!

    • Tunsak 3 years ago

Etebo was playing in the first division in Portugal before he was loaned to another 1st division in Spain. So does playing in the Championship represent an upward trajectory in his career? And how many Championship players are going to the WC if its that good.

  • Mixed feeling though. I see sense in everyone’s comment but for me personally, I feel he’s too good to play in the championship!

  • Abdul andah 3 years ago

That guy has no upward ambition in his football career. I guess etebo doesn’t believe in himself at all. World Cup player in the championship?
Abeg make we leave for Mathias joor. Lol

  • For me that is a good move. if he does well at the world cup any club that needs his services can still sign him from stoke (N/B his release clause wont be very high). Moreover the championship is better than most first tier leagues in europe e.g israel, cyprus, turkey, china etc. He is a good player no doubt, but a bird at hand…..

Haha why not wait till after world cup

The same thing people said about our legend Okocha when he signed for Bolton in the second division from France. To this day, Bolton always remember him, with gratitude, as one of the best ever in their 100 years history. This young man may turn Stoke around and/or Stoke may turn him around. History would have repeated itself again and again.
