Super Falcons striker Rasheedat Ajibade believes that her side’s quality and experience will play a crucial role in upstaging South Africa for a successful defence of their African Women’s Cup of Nations title on Saturday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports
The defending champions are the most successful side in the history of the competition having won eight of the previous 10 editions.
The Nigerian ladies have also never lost in the final of the competition.
The Banyana Banyana beat their rivals Falcons 1-0 in the first meeting between both teams in the competition but Ajibade who plays for local side, FC Robo is adamant that Falcons have what it takes to emerge champions again.
“I am confident about the chances of the Super Falcons in the Africa Women Cup of Nations final against South Africa,” Ajibade told reporters.
“Though God disposes of whatever man proposes to achieve because it is not just about how good a team is that help them success or the trophy at times in competition.
“I am very confident because of the quality and experience of players in the team. It will play a key role if any team or group of people want to succeed in tournaments like this.
“The players we have here are regulars in their various clubs and not second fiddle, in a very good shape and also played the competition and won several times.
“I believe we everyone on the team combined forces in the game proper like we’ve done so far in unity, love, cohesion and with great determination, we will triumph.”
The Falcons forward also said of their opponents: “South Africa are also a good team because qualifying to the final is as good as winning the trophy because they are not a pushover.
“So, everyone is going to put in their best. The fact remains we are the giant of Africa and we have to work extra hard to retain our trophy.”
Having qualified for their eight-successive Women’s World Cup taking in France, the super Falcons will look to win a record ninth title in Ghana.
